Fitness Week Kick-Off

Happy Monday! Remember? We're excited about Mondays now because we get to start new goals! You guys did AWESOME with the healthy lifestyle challenge last week. This week, we're focusing on FITNESS! Oh ya, time to get our buns movin' and a groovin'.

Okay, it's time for some truth that some of us might not want to hear. YOU SHOULD BE GETTING AT LEAST 30 MINUTES OF EXERCISE A DAY. So many people get overwhelmed thinking about this, because they're too afriad to go to the gym, feel like they don't have time, don't think it will really make them feel better, etc, etc, etc. Guess what? All of those ideas are negative ones that wont get you anywhere, and it's time to kiss them goodbye. There are SO many different ways that you can fit in your excercise each day. This week, we will be exploring your options, and weighing out the benefits.

A common misconception is that women don't need to do strength training. That is WRONG. Building your muscles by lifting weights is so crucial to good health. I found this out first hand as I stopped doing weights, and spent most of my time running 6-9 miles a day. This is why I am now in physical therapy for my knee... It gives you enhanced performance in life in general, increases your metabolic rate, gives injury prevention, increases lean muscle mass, the list goes on and on! So, while you are thinking this week about what you want to change to in your fitness routine, keep this in mind.

YOUR CHALLENGE THIS WEEK is to set a fitness goal for yourself, and keep track of the difference you feel for one week. Link up back here on FRIDAY, with your post about your goal, and what you will be doing to achieve it! Remember, if you aren't currently excercising, starting to walk even 10 minutes a day will make you feel a difference. Just think, that's already 70 min MORE of excercise for your beautiful body each week! You don't need to be running marathons (well...yet :) ), but you DO need to be keeping your bodies active! So go get your tooshies moving! What will you be doing today to kick off fitness week!?

PS: The Shop Kempt giveaway will be announced tomorrow, along with a GIVEAWAY FROM GUSSY SEWS!!! You lucky little ducks.

If you need to lose 50+ pounds (like me) and don't do weight training, you will have more excess skin than you want.... So my trainer has told me. Plus you can really FEEL it and can see/tell a difference pretty quick!

I love walking! I try to walk for an hour about 3-4 days a week, but I'd like to start also running or working out in other ways too. I hate the gym, but I think some good old-fashioned push ups/sit ups might be in order :)

Looking forward to the rest of Fitness Week!

I just want to say that exercising doesn't have to mean doing a 30 minute workout. It could mean doing 10 minutes in the morning, 10 in the middle of the day and 10 at night. That seems easier to me than trying to do a 30 minute workout. :) I really need to get myself and my hubby doing this! :)

Love the new challenge. I so wish I could get into an exercise routine but am not very ambitious.

Your blog is so inspirational! :) I especially love that last picture, it's so true. The hardest part is getting out the door. What's so funny is I swim a mile at least 3 times a week, but this week the pool I go to is closed for lap swimming because of lifeguard training :/ I need to find something else to do.

And also if you don't have a lot of free time, your workout can be spread throughout the day. Your workout is cumulative. And although you lose more calories with less downtime between sets/workouts because you keep your heart rate up, doing ten or fifteen minutes here or there still works for you.

Ooh, this coincides with my personal must-lose-weight-this-summer plan perfectly! I'm totally doing it, and I'm going to start off by doing what I do best, making a list! Variety and planning is key, I think.

This just reassures me of my goal that I set yesterday and gives me inspiration. Ever since Christmas exercising has been almost non-existent(in my standards anyway). Yesterday I set the goal that no matter what I would exercise at least 5 days a week. I'll be doing physique 57 dvd's and walking. I'm so excited to start feeling better!

It is so hard starting an exercise program but it feel so good once started! I schedule a 30min workout into my day 6 out of 7 days a week, but I remind myself that the world won't end if I miss a day! It's all about finding what works for YOU! Good luck all!!

You have inspired me. I am working out every day this week! Have you read The New Rules of Lifting for Women? It talks all about the importance of lifting for chicks like us. It's great!

I totally agree on the strenght training. I did hot yoga for months on end, but two weeks of pure barre with weights and toning changed my body way faster. Great words of wisdom today. I needed it!
