Hi! My name is Daryl and I blog over at Roots, Wings & Other Things, a little blog dedicated to the chasing and realizing of one's dreams! Today I'm going to be teaching you how to DIY a pair of adorable glitter-toed flats (or heels, why not?) for a fraction of what they would cost if you purchased them from a retailer.
Three of my greatest passions are food, fashion & travel (as is made obvious by my blog) and I believe that all three things, which influence each other in so many ways, should be both affordable and accessible. That being said, I love to shop, but I've learned to thrift, shop bargains and incorporate DIY clothing and accessories in order to make the most out of my money.
Enter the Jimmy Choo Glitter Flat, which I spied in a department store one fateful morning.
It was love at first sight. The minute I laid eyes on them I knew they were the shoes for me. Our love affair was brought to a screeching halt (as love affairs often do) when I saw the price tag (a cool $375 dollars) and...let's just say things didn't work out between us. I was sad, but I realized within minutes that I would be able to create a similar look for a (tiny!) fraction of the price all on my own. I did, and nearly everytime I wear them I get compliments!
I'm here to share the love and knowledge with you.
Materials:
- Flats in your desired color or material (I settled on a blush suede)
- Painter's tape
- Glittery paint
- Paint brush
Step One: Tape off the section of shoe you’d like to paint. Be sure to make sure the tape is down good and tight – you don’t want any paint to bleed through!
Step Two: Begin painting. Sweep your first glittery coat over the shoes and let dry completely. I went for a dark silver paint. Make sure the paint you choose will work well with the material your shoe is made of – because the flats I bought were made from a suede like material, I made sure to buy fabric paint.
Step Three: Repeat step two a few more times, being sure to let each coat dry in between painting. When you are satisfied with the look of things, let dry for several hours.
Step Four: Carefully peel back painters tape and bask in your own awesomeness!
That's it. I'm serious. It requires virtually no effort, unless you consider kicking back and watching bad reality TV while waiting for paint to dry hard work! The best part? The entire project cost me just under $10.
I would love to see these shoes made in black with gold glitter, or maybe playing up on this season's fall colors like burgundy or royal blue. The choice is yours and the possibilities are endless!

How fun. Just in time for the holidays! I was thinking black with gold glitter to wear with a black dress!! Oooh.
This is an amazing idea! And your shoes look absolutely incredible. I think fabric paint is a little more expensive in the UK so it would probably cost more for this project but looks worth it :)
I like yours better than the Jimmy Cho ones! Great job!
These are just awesome! love the idea!
I love these!! What brand fabric paint did you use?
Thanks to writer..providing very good service.
