An unprecedented attack that rocked our country to its very core.
An attempt to crumble Miss Liberty,
and what she had worked so hard to stand for.
A plan to burn dreams to ashes,
and make us forget who we are.
We were shaken.
We were shaken
But we came together.
Heroes rose from the dust, rescuing hope before it was lost.
Love fortified our boundaries
and we remembered how to rise above.
May we always remember.

I've never seen that first photo before. It literally took my breath away. I remember exactly where I was on that day.... As a New Yorker living in Vegas at the time.... I felt so far away from everyone I knew. Helpless. On this, the tenth anniversary of that heartbreaking day, we mourn and remember those we lost and all who were affected. But we are also given an opportunity: to overcome the lie of "them" and "I" and learn to live together. The terrorists of 9/11 were guided by a narrative of intercultural incompatibility. But as people of diverse religious and secular identities, we can prove them wrong in our unity. Tragedy can teach us many lessons. From pain, we can learn compassion. xoxo Thank you for sharing this.
This is beautiful, it was such an awful event that rocked the world.
Thank you. My heart still aches from what happened that day and the images we saw...but there is also a great peace and love in remembering all those brave souls who were lost. The Shanksville memorial is not far from our home...going there fills one with sadness but also a deep gratitude to those who gave their lives.
My thoughts and prayers go to everyone affected by those dreadful attacks. This post is beautiful, thankyou.

I don't think I have seen that first photo either. It puts the size of the towers in prospective. Such a sad day but so important to remember.
